Covid has significantly impacted pupils’
reading outcomes and widened the
attainment gap between disadvantaged
and non-disadvantaged pupils. Reading
Solutions UK (RSUK) believe that their
product Reading Plus can accelerate pupils’
reading achievement and close the learning
gap – especially for disadvantaged pupils.
The study
Here, the EdTech company discusses findings from their
2021/22 efficacy study in collaboration with Derby
Research School and Spencer Academies Trust.
Pupils were assessed at three stages (September 21,
December 21, and May 22 SATs paper) using a
standardised test which allowed us to compare the
study’s data against national data.
We wanted to test the efficacy of our online reading
development programme Reading Plus and its impact
on disadvantaged pupils. The study is a first of its kind
for RSUK and involved 470 Y6 pupils from six Spencer
Academy Trust schools. Three schools used Reading Plus,
and three acted as a control group without access to the
programme.
