Ensuring Mental Wellbeing support is available for all
staff working in the education sector
76% of workers believe that their organisation should be doing more to protect the mental
health of their workforce.
The last 24 months have arguably been the most difficult that the education sector has ever had to face.
Anyone working in or connected with the education sector knows full well how bad the repercussions have
been on staff, management, pupils, and students. This has led to a deterioration in the mental health of
many involved. Meritec has sought to help improve the mental health and wellbeing of those affected
through the provision of our Digital Learning course called Focus on Mental Wellbeing.
Mental wellbeing was already a topic steadily climbing up organisation’s agendas long before the crazy
circumstances of the last 2 years. However, a global pandemic, multiple national lockdowns, furlough
schemes and the shift to remote working, has only accelerated the importance of addressing mental
wellbeing within organisations.

All educational settings are striving for excellence. In fact, quite often it is this continual drive towards
improvement which can often be the underlying cause of much stress amongst staff, which in turn can
negatively manifest on their mental wellbeing.
Prior to the pandemic and particularly once it hit, Meritec identified the pressures that the education sector
was facing and was quick to adapt its proven “Focus on Mental Wellbeing” course to create a tailored
version specifically for the education sector. We understand that all staff need to feel the support of their
employers more than ever. Meritec’s Digital Learning course, Focus on Mental Wellbeing for education does
just that.
We aim to help all educational settings to engender a kinder and safer culture that encourages their staff to
be open about discussing their mental wellbeing and addressing potential issues.
The benefits in positively addressing mental wellbeing across your organisation include:
Improved productivity of staff - mental health costs the UK billions in reduced productivity every year.
Reduced absenteeism - and the associated challenges that it brings.
Reduced presenteeism – ensuring teachers do not work when they are unwell.
Improved progress of pupils– aligned with better energy and creativity within the classroom.
Reduced staff turnover– ensuring better teaching continuity within the school.
Improved performance of the school– performing stronger in Ofsted inspections.
Enabling staff to better support the pupils – open and understanding approach to mental wellbeing.
Improved culture within the organisation – providing a more supportive environment.
Mental wellbeing support for staff is something all educational settings are able to put into practice.
