My school is a private school in the

Pakistan and Egypt. Although the children
are considered to have EAL, I would not
consider that to be the case as they are very
strong in the English language. (KR, Qatar)
Arabaic is their first language so I am
more conscious about my Mancunian
accent and making everything very
clear for them. (NW, UAE)
The school is a large school in Madrid. It has a positive ethos and is keen to
promote Professional Development. It encourages teachers to set their own
targets as well as providing many opportunities for CPD.
Planning is done in family groups and there are opportunities to exchange
ideas. The family leader system gives teachers a pastoral support system and
someone to go to for daily help and advice. (VM, Spain)
How were you supported in regards to finding
accommodation/setting up a bank account etc?
My school is fantastic. They have
organised everything. Accommodation
was provided instantly, bank
representatives visited the school, car
rental and entertainment information
was set out early on. (JJ, UAE)
Our school has its own relocation team.
They asked us for our living requirements
and then found around 20 properties for us
to look at. They arranged viewings,
accompanied me to them and checked the
contract before I signed. (VM, Spain)
From your experience, what have you found the differences
to be between UK schools and British Schools Overseas?
The children that attend the school are so astonishingly polite and enthusiastic about
learning. This is not to say that every child is an A* student; it's their attitude towards
learning that is uplifting. Thus, as a teacher, instead of focusing on behaviour
management, which may be more of a focus in some UK schools, I am able to focus
and improve on the different skills of actually teaching within the classroom. If i do
move back to the UK in the future, I will be armed with so much experience of
teaching strategies for the best outcomes for the children. (AB, UAE)
