How did you feel about taking a
job as an NQT in a completely
new school?
It was not the easiest option to take
but it had a lot of benefits. There is no
doubt that starting a new school from
scratch as an NQT is difficult as there
aren’t any previous plans or resources
to use, however, Aaron and all the
staff at Green Ridge were extremely
supportive and we all worked hard
together to create this wonderful
school. Being at the start means that
you can have a say in shaping the
school and making it what it becomes,
which was always a draw for me as I
want to help shape the future of
education.
What is the most rewarding
element of your job now?
The most rewarding part is seeing the
effect you have had on the children,
especially at the end of the year. When
you observe them learning and
demonstrating the behaviours you have
instilled in them such as resilience,
curiosity and kindness, you feel satisfied
that they will be able to achieve anything
they wish to in their futures, and you have
been a part of creating that for them.

these children are by the
end of the year is quite
daunting as an NQT
What was the most
challenging element of
being an NQT?
The most challenging part was having
to create a lot of the content myself for
every single lesson! I was the only KS1
teacher with children in Year One and
Two, so I had to create every lesson
plan and all resources from scratch for
a mixed age class. I like to make
everything suit my class and children
as best it can, so I was guilty of
spending a lot of time creating all these
things when there are a lot of great
resources already out there. The
realisation that you are responsible for
where these children are by the end of
the year is quite daunting as an NQT,
however, if you have an amazing team
to support you, as I did, you will not
feel alone in this.
