DfE Strategies to Reduce Workload
The Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, has reiterated his
commitment to reducing teacher workload in a recent letter
to school leaders. The letter coincided with a report from
the Workload Advisory Group, which was set up to look at
the issue of teacher workload.
To tackle workload, the Education Secretary has committed
to reduce the need to collect unnecessary or excessive pupil
data, help deal with workload related to teacher appraisals
and make better use of technology to simplify data systems.
More information on the letter and the proposals to reduce
workload can be found here.
Launch of Wellbeing Resources for
Pupils, Teachers and Parents
The ultimate school wellbeing package, Brilliant Schools,
has recently been launched to schools across the globe.
The team, led by Dr Andy Cope, has studied all the best bits
of positive psychology, wellbeing, strengths, character
education, growth mindsets, mindfulness, CBT, resilience
and human flourishing. They have then distilled down all
the science into some fun, easy to consume video content
that is unique, imaginative and impactful. The content is
designed to provoke conversation, positive actions and
thoughts as well as being bags of fun.
By targeting pupils, staff and even parents, positive habits
can be embedded into the lives of everyone involved in the
learning process, leading to pupils feeling happier and
attaining better results, creating a ripple of positivity that
will extend through your school and beyond.

Children from
Poorer Backgrounds
being priced out of
music lessons
New data released this
month shows that many
parts of the UK are at risk of
under-representation in the
music industry, as lower
income families are priced
out of music lessons. The
report reveals that cost is
the primary factor for the
discrepancy in uptake of
lessons amongst children.
Encouragement at home is
also a factor.
