CASE STUDY:
Wick Lane, East London
Historic, industrial, creative and residential
Wick Lane is an employment-led development of six
buildings with 175 homes built over new light industrial
units, retail and workspaces. The project references the
Strategic Industrial Land and heritage assets to the south
and Fish Island conservation area to the north – an
historic neighbourhood characterised by Victorian
warehouse buildings hosting a mix of industrial, creative
and residential spaces.
The two areas are integrated via a landscaped public
realm, creating a new mixed-use community that
provides character and connectivity to Hackney Wick.
The project was worked up in co-ordination with the
Quality Review Panel for London Legacy Development
Corporation (LLDC) to ensure the residential was
compatible in terms of both function and form –
complementing the existing character of the area.
A new Fashion District is emerging in the area,
managed by the London College of Fashion, the British
Fashion Council and The Trampery, which will include
33 studios for growth-stage fashion designers and makers.
