Complementing
government ambition
In June 2022 the Queensland Government unveiled its
budget. Included in the announcements was the injection
of $115.6 million over four years to accelerate the growth,
development and distribution of First Nations arts, boost the
creative workforce, and enhance the delivery of local arts
experiences that drive social and economic outcomes in
Queensland communities.
Speaking at the time, Leeanne Enoch (Minister for Communities
and Housing, Minister for Digital Economy and Minister for
the Arts) said the money would go towards helping “secure and
nurture the critical pipeline of local arts and cultural workers
and companies that will fuel the state’s creative future”.
Key government initiatives involve fostering partnerships and
collaborations that grow place-based cultural tourism
experiences to deliver economic impact in communities and
drive creative employment. Ideally, investment will boost the
State’s cultural experience economy by supporting Queensland
artists and organisations to make and present their work in
Queensland, to export Queensland-made work to international
markets and to attract the best arts and cultural leaders to
work in Queensland.
THE CREATIVE BRISBANE CREATIVE
ECONOMY STRATEGY
The Creative Brisbane Creative Economy Strategy aims to
strengthen Brisbane’s liveability as a vibrant creative hub and
to ensure Brisbane becomes the premier location for talented
people to live, work, play, raise families, develop careers and
economic potential.
It provides a shared vision to strengthen the city’s liveability as
a vibrant, creative hub by raising the global value proposition
of Brisbane’s unique lifestyle and culture, building the city’s
creative capacity and resources, and encouraging a
collaborative, risk-friendly creative economy.
The strategy outlines Brisbane City Council’s vision for a
creative and prosperous Brisbane, where “Brisbane’s creative
sector thrives and is driven by talented leaders, creative
entrepreneurs and a skilled workforce”. It also aims to ensure
Brisbane is “globally recognised as a leading destination for
distinctive and authentic cultural experiences that attract
local, national and international audiences”.
Key to the strategy is providing Brisbane with “world-class
infrastructure and accessible spaces that inspire creative
community participation and deliver extraordinary
experiences for residents and visitors to the city”.
“I’m excited to be leading a city
that recognises how essential the
creative sector is to our identity,
prosperity and quality of life.”
