FUTURES ACADEMY
The Futures Academy is a brilliant programme
to prepare Health and Social Care students for
a career within the health care sector.
Futures Academy offers a specialised one-year
programme of study for able and ambitious students
who want to go far in health-related industries by giving
them a ‘competitive’ edge.
What can you expect?
• Exposure to many employers and health related
industries
• Work placements at Beaumont Hospital where you
will learn how patients are referred/admitted to the
hospital and observe various departments such as
radiography, physiotherapy, pharmacy and clinical
governance
• Masterclasses and guest speakers with a range of
leading NHS practitioners
• Experience an overnight stay in London visiting
various health related museums and lectures
including visits to the Florence Nightingale Museum,
The Old Operating Theatre and a West-End show
• Trips to fantastic university taster days including Edge
Hill University and the University of Salford
• Free uniform provided with a nurses watch and
name badge
• 90% of Futures Academy students embark on a
health-related degree course, including nursing,
midwifery and paramedic science
What does the academy entail?
You will study a Level 3 Extended Diploma in
Health & Social Care at The Sixth Form. Alongside
your programme, your placement will be with The
Beaumont Hospital (BMI Health Care), which will
consist of one-week (total of 35 hours) covering a
range of department care from nursing, radiography,
physiotherapy and observing medical surgery.
The selection process for Futures Academy will take
place in your first year and if selected, you will carry
out your placement during a selected month in your
first year. This programme will prepare you perfectly
for health-related degrees at university. It will build
your experience in the health care sector, expanding
on the theoretical study in class by transferring this
within practical settings, helping you to stand out
during the university application process. The Futures
Academy programme is subject to limited places and
involves a selection process run by The Sixth Form
and BMI Health Care.
