Why study Accounting?
Qualified accountants are highly paid, valued individuals.
They have an influence on everything you will see and
do in life. A qualification in accounting will always be
beneficial - whether it is used professionally or personally.
Students will build knowledge and understanding of key
concepts, principles and techniques that they can apply
to real-life scenarios, developing the ability to solve
problems logically, analyse data methodically, make
reasoned choices and communicate effectively.
What's covered?
In the first year, you will study topics from both financial
and management accounting areas. An introduction to
the role of the accountant in business, types of business
organisation, the double entry model, verification of
accounting records, accounting concepts used in
the preparation of accounting records, preparation of
financial statements of sole traders, partnerships and
limited company accounts, analysis and evaluation of
financial information and accounting for organisations
with incomplete records.
In the second year, students will further develop
their knowledge and understanding of Financial and
Management Accounting. This unit of study includes
budgeting, marginal costing, standard costing and
variance analysis, absorption and activity-based costing,
and capital investment appraisal.
Future Opportunities
Many students progress into a financial management
career including: budget analyst, chartered accountant,
economist and banker. For any student considering a
leadership or management position, an understanding of
accounting is a major benefit.
Why study Art & Design?
This is an in-depth, full-time, art and design course,
where you will explore specialist techniques and
processes associated with areas such as design,
sculpture, fine art, photography, print making, illustration
and textile, fashion and surface pattern design.
What’s covered?
There are six units to this course: Unit 1: Creative
Process Developing, Unit 2: Creative Practise, Unit
3: Responding to a Set Brief, Unit 4: Researching a
Specialist Industry Practice, Unit 5: Specialist Technical
Skills Development and Unit 6: Specialist Creative
Outcome. You will study units 1-3 in year one and
units 4-6 in year two. All units are internally assessed,
however units 3 and 6 will be subject to external
moderation. Throughout the course, you will explore a
wide range of projects. What makes this course unique
is that most, if not all of these projects are live briefs,
you will work with real clients, gaining sought after
industry experience in an area of the visual arts you are
most interested in pursuing as a career. You will build a
portfolio of work that will give you access to universities,
apprenticeships and the workplace.
Future Opportunities
Many students go on to study art and design at
pre-degree foundation level, or a BA degree. Students
have gained employment in many areas of art and
design such as interior design, surface pattern design,
graphic design, industrial and commercial product
design, as well as photography, animation, film/video,
advertising and illustration.
