CHILDREN'S PLAY, LEARNING
& DEVELOPMENT
Single Vocational A Level
Why study Children’s Play, Learning & Development?
This course will introduce you to a wide range of
interesting and enriching topic areas relevant to
early years practice, from the practical skills needed
for looking after children to psychological theory of
development. You will gain an understanding of the
development of children and how this influences their
progress as they grow.
What's covered?

Smithills School
This course allows you to develop core specialist
knowledge so that you understand the skills required by
the sector. These include child development, play and
learning, and early years curriculum. You will undertake
a minimum of fifty hours work experience in at least
one setting with children from birth to eight years, this
is to ensure you develop your practical skills and have
experience of working with children. You will be assessed
by coursework, examinations and demonstrations.
A Level English Literature, Psychology, Single
Vocational A Level Children's Play, Learning &
Development and AS Level Core Mathematics
Future Opportunities
Enrichment: Time to Read Mentoring Programme,
Mental Health First Aid Training, Emergency First Aid
Training
This is a respected route for those who wish to progress
to higher education to study subjects such as primary
teaching, play therapy, youth work and community
liaison within the sector.

programme, and since building my relationship
with the school I have continued to support them
throughout my two years at B6. My favourite subject
has been Children's Play, Learning and Development
as it is linked with the career that I would like to
progress into. After leaving B6, I aim to achieve my
Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification.”
