Tony Holt brochure design 2015 V2.pdf - Page 7

Project Cost £750k-£900k
Footprint: 550m² (5,919ft²)
The existing plot is occupied by an aging property and the
client required a design for a replacement dwelling of high
architectural merit. The outline brief included the need to
achieve a contemporary dwelling, using materials that would
sit comfortably in the woodland setting. The client also
wanted to achieve a cost efficiency in the building form so
that delivery of high quality materials could be achieved.
The design approach produced a linear building form which
is shaped and positioned to respond to the sites orientation.
Main habitable rooms have been located to benefit the most
from the movement of the sun throughout the day and the
aspect onto the semi-rural setting.
The internal spaces are encapsulated by a two storey
monopitch shape with large roof overhangs. The south
elevation is predominantly glazed and large roof overhangs
and cantilevered balconies help provide shade during
summer months. This simple shape and plan form help
create a simple cost efficient structure.
Externally the ground floor walls are finished in durable
and low maintenance facing brickwork, first floor in natural
cedar cladding and zinc standing seam roofing. The natural
palette of materials creates warmth while the shape, form
and glazed elevations deliver an individually designed
contemporary dwelling.
