Our Subjects - Year 10
Thomas Telford University Technical College has
developed a curriculum which offers considerable
breadth for students through a range of academic
(General Certificate of Secondary Education) and
vocational (BTEC and Cambridge National) courses.
All students will follow a Core Curriculum of English,
Maths, Science and Construction:
• English Literature
• English Language
• Mathematics
• Core Science
• Additional Science
• Construction – Design in the Built Environment
• Construction – Construction in the Built Environment
All students will follow a Specialist Curriculum of
either Design, Build or Innovate Pathway:
• Geography
• Art & Design: 3D Design – Architecture & Interior
Design - Fine Art and Photography
• Construction (Level 1 Introductory)
• BTEC Enterprise
All students will select one wider option subject from
the following list:
• Design Technology
• BTEC Sport
• Triple Science
• BTEC ICT
What We Offer
• Industry-standard software and equipment. Students learn in a professional
environment, working in contemporary studios and workshops with access to
the very latest technology and machinery.
• Links with employers. We work with a number of high profile industry partners
who offer our students work experience opportunities, one-to one mentoring
and valuable insights into their professions, as well as a chance to work on live
projects.
• Preparation for the world of work. Our students leave us employer-ready, with
the confidence to start their future careers or higher levels of study. We have a
businesslike approach, mirroring a commercial working day, with school hours
of 8.30-5pm.
• Enrichment opportunities. We offer an extensive programme of visits,
exchanges and extra-curricular activities. Our students have the chance to take
part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and the Baker Award.
