The Graduate Employability Framework underpins
The Graduate Employability Framework places skill development at the heart
of upReach’s programmes
upReach’s Graduate Employability Framework (GEF) underpins all upReach programmes, and
ensures Associates develop the skills necessary to succeed in the graduate labour market.
Using the GEF, we guide Associates through a structured learning journey built around employability
skills development, career sector exploration, practical work experience and network building.
getEmployable.org, our GEF assessment tool, comprises an online questionnaire which measures
students’ performance and experience against the ten employability skill categories. Each student
that takes the questionnaire receives a Personal Employability Report, which they can use to plan
their development in their priority areas.
upReach analysis confirms the link between skill progression and
This year, we have further explored the link between employability scores and/or progression, and
the likelihood of an Associate securing a graduate role. In doing so, we have sought to evaluate the
effectiveness of skills assessments in predicting graduate success.
Associates with a positive
graduate outcome scored 3.7
percentage points higher in the
employability assessment than
those who didn’t
Our research found that, for our 2018 graduates, those who secured an offer for highly skilled
employment within 15 months of graduation had an average employability score 3.7 percentage
points higher than those who did not. In addition, the same successful graduates also showed a
higher rate of progression in their overall skill level during their final year of university than those
who were not successful.
This analysis demonstrates that the Graduate Employability Framework acts as a meaningful
indicator of graduate success, and emphasises the importance of skill development
