Meet Mick
Our careers advisors, Stephen, Julia and Lue, take pride in guiding people
to make significant changes in their lives and they have helped many
individuals move into learning, volunteer opportunities and paid work.
Their approachability and commitment really does change people’s lives!
When Mick was made redundant in 2019, due a combination of ongoing
health issues and company redundancies, he realised he had no option
but to find out what support was available for him. He contacted York
Learning and made an appointment.
“From that first meeting, Stephen showed me how to reconfigure my CV. He
got me started on an ECDL Level 1 course, taught me how to do job searches
using Indeed, and introduced me to the ‘Learn My Way’ computer courses. I
took part in confidence classes on Zoom and a North Yorkshire Sport Health
and Social Care Wellbeing course. Stephen also referred me to more support
from the Yorkshire Energy Doctor; Kyra; the Citizen’s Advice Bureu; and
to complete my Level 1 ECDL qualification. I also attended Jobs Fairs and
Careers Roadshows, and felt confident networking with the employers who
were there.
I went into the project with an open mind - ‘let’s see where it takes me’. It’s
all been a massive learning curve and I feel a better person for it. The Action
Towards Inclusion project has just been absolutely first class, top notch, and
I would advise anybody and everybody to take that first time and do it with
confidence because York Learning will help you to the n’th degree.”
