University of Adelaide - Impact of Giving 2022 - Flipbook - Page 11
Each year, many high school students who dream
of going to the University of Adelaide experience
challenging personal circumstances that make it
difficult, if not impossible, to realise that dream.
In 2003 the Augustus Short Scholarships were created
to support high-achieving students who are financially
and/or geographically disadvantaged throughout their
degree. For more than 20 years they have remained
an invaluable way to support young Australians like
Chris to pursue their studies and dream career.
“Growing up in Strathalbyn, I first knew I wanted to
become a vet at the age of four or five. It was the animals
that initially piqued my interest as a young child; but as
I grew it was the people you help through the animals
which became the motivating factor,” said Chris.

“I am so grateful to the donors for their support of the
Augustus Short Scholarship. My personal university
experience was enriched so valuably by this scholarship
which allows young people like me to focus on what
we’re at university to do – get a solid education,” he said.
