University of Adelaide - Impact of Giving 2022 - Flipbook - Page 3
Our students are the
leaders of tomorrow
and our researchers are
finding solutions to some
of the world’s biggest
challenges. Your support
of them is transforming
lives and contributing to
a stronger society.
As the Vice-Chancellor of the University of
Adelaide, I have had the privilege of witnessing the
direct impact of your support. Your generosity has
nurtured a vibrant learning environment, fostering
innovation, creativity and critical thinking among
our students. It is because of you that we have been
able to attract exceptional faculty members, further
elevating the quality of education we provide.
In 2022, the University of Adelaide received
$18.9 million in philanthropic funds from 1,122
individual donors. Of that, $13.1 million was
received from trusts and foundations.
Thanks to your donations, 99 new scholarships
valued at $690,000, were awarded in 2022. We
are of course extremely grateful for these, but
nowhere near as grateful as the students whose
education at the University of Adelaide has been
made all the more manageable with the diminished
stress and burden of financial barriers.
The 2023 end of financial year appeals focused on
key areas of the University needing our attention
and investment, including additional resources for
the Barr Smith Library, the Indigenous Support
Fund, the Augustus Short Scholarships, the
Student Emergency Fund and the South Australian
immunoGENomics Cancer Institute (SAiGENCI).
The SAiGENCI appeal saw a significant growth in
new donors to the University, not only highlighting
the number of people affected by cancer in our
community, but also the passion for research which
improves outcomes for patients and their families.
Impact of Giving
Thank you
Thank you for your ongoing valuable contribution and
commitment to our students and to our university.
As many of you would know, in 2024 the University
of Adelaide will celebrate its 150th birthday and
we are planning a year-long celebration for our
community. I look forward to meeting you in-person
at some of the events as we commemorate a truly
significant milestone in the life of the University.
Thank you again for your continuing support, and
for being part of our community. In particular,
thank you for recognising that a great education
changes lives. Together, we are Making History.
