In the area of Goal #3, support staff was put in place at multiple levels with the direct purpose of supporting English learners in small groups.
Paraeducators were hired and trained by district staff to work with EL students in academic settings. Teachers were trained in Read180
support curriculum strategies by district staff. In addition, a district English learner counselor was hired along with ten new counselors with
the direct support of English learners in grades 7-12. Due to delays with the pandemic, staffing was delayed but all were hired by March of
2022. These secondary counselors have improved outreach to families and students, as well as supporting staff by analyzing the assetsbased school environment principles from the rubric in EL roadmap principle #1. In a survey of elementary principals, there has also been an
improvement in the overall ranking of EL support from a level 2 or 3 to now ranking at a level 3 or 4. This rubric reflects teacher and
principal's self-ratings on improving instructional support for EL students in the classroom. District Coaches lead multiple initiatives to ensure
English learners and their families are supported by staff who are knowledgeable of the ELD standards and capable of effectively using data
to differentiate instruction and incorporate supplemental materials specific to the academic needs of English learners. Coaches provided the
instructional training for full implementation of the Read180, ELA/ELD intervention program. In addition, ABC Unified partnered with Leverage
learning to support three schools with the highest English learner population needs in the area of the English learner roadmap and with the
intended goal of increasing reclassification by 6th grade. These schools included Aloha, Burbank, and Niemes Elementary School.
Reclassification rates at the end of 2020-21 were 10.8%. New reclassification rates will be available in July of 2022.
COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS:
In order to broaden access to a range of rigorous courses that would lead students to improved outcomes for college and career readiness,
an increase in offerings in College and Career Technical Education pathways and in Dual Enrollment courses occurred in the 21-22 school
year. These resulted in increased enrollment and completion from unduplicated student groups as indicated by the following: 20% increase in
pathway completion for low-income students; 83% of English learners increase in completion of CTE pathway. In addition, the number of
offerings for Dual enrollment for both CTE and general access to entry-level courses for college also improved. Five new dual enrollment
CTE courses were added in the 21-22 school year. In the Spring of 2022, five new courses were added for Dual Enrollment with an emphasis
on Health. This helped students earn both college credits and complete high school graduation requirements.
Technology support for unduplicated student groups continues to be an area of focus, ensuring devices are accessible for all students in
ABC. Technology professional learning support focused on the 4C’s: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. In prior
years, the focus was on learning software programs and hardware technology. This year, the focus was on integrating technology as part of
the in-person instruction, providing support for online learning platforms such as GoGuardian, and Google Suite. The ABC District
Technology Department offered much support for parents and family engagement. IT offered parent academy support 5 times during the
month of September to welcome our families back to the new school year. Topics included ELPAC and Reclassification, Google
walkthroughs, and managing behaviors at home. In addition, IT hosted video meetings and provided guidelines for the use of technology at
home and school for parents and families. The IT Department also launched the ParentSquare App to all parents and families of ABC. The
app allowed parents and families to receive distinct school notifications via email, text, or phone with immediate access to PDFs,
announcements, and/or google documents regarding news from their school. Finally, the IT department hosted daily live technical support
available from 7:30 a.m. -to -6:00 p.m. for parents and families to ask questions to ensure that their students could access the internet during
hybrid teaching.
