PARENT ENGAGEMENT:
To support and improve Parent Engagement (Goal #6), a strong emphasis was placed by district staff on parent and student outreach efforts.
The District hosted five Black Family Circle (BFC) meetings to support our parents and community. The mission of the BFC is to increase
Black student success by acknowledging the challenges that impede achievement while empowering students, educators, parents, and the
community through strategic planning and solutions. Topics have included: Social Emotional Learning; The ABCs of Parent Involvement;
Fostering a College-Going Culture/Academic Planning; Mentorship, Internships, Scholarships, Entrepreneurship, and a culminating "Family
Reunion" event to round out the year and celebrate our progress and connection as a BFC community. In addition, the district has hosted
three Hispanic-Latino Family Circle meetings to support our parents and community. The mission of the HLFC is to foster intercultural
communication to empower Hispanic-Latino parents/guardians' involvement in their child's academic success and support their voice in our
school communities and beyond. Topics have included:: "Defining Our Mission - The Why and How of Hispanic-Latino Parent/Guardian
Involvement: Advocacy Begins with Vision; Vision Begins with Knowing Your Why;" "Next-Grade Level: The Importance of High School
Academic Plan Supporting Hispanic-Latino(a) students Access to Achieve Higher Academic Opportunities;" and "Demystifying the Myths
Hispanic-Latino Student College Entrance Industry Career Certification vs Community College vs 4-year University." All sessions offer
Spanish translation as an option for parents and community members.
The District plans to maintain and continue the successes outlined in this section by providing students with the actions/services associated
with the areas described above. These actions and services have proven effective at increasing student achievement and improving
students' behaviors and social-emotional needs for success in a school environment. District staff will continue to monitor various data points
(e.g. assessments, attendance, etc.) to ensure continuous improvement occurs.
Reflections: Identified Need
A description of any areas that need significant improvement based on a review of Dashboard and local data, including any areas of low
performance and significant performance gaps among student groups on Dashboard indicators, and any steps taken to address those areas.
The 2019 California Dashboard revealed the student groups that were below the standard for English-language arts and mathematics.
District staff used this data to provide a multi-tiered system of academic support for specific student groups and to institute monitoring
structures to measure student progress during the 2020-2021 school year. Based on the CAASPP Data for 2018-2019, the overall for ELA
was 66.08% met or exceed standards: The group scores were as follows: African American- 56.18%, Hispanic or Latino- 52.18%, Pacific
Islander- 57.89%, economically disadvantaged- 52.10%, students with disabilities- 25.08%, Homeless- 33.33%, and English learners 29.98%. The 2018-19 CAASPP scores in Math were overall 54.90% met or exceed standards, and the group scores were as follows:
African American- 39.13%, Hispanic or Latino- 37.24%, Pacific Islander- 38.6%, economically disadvantaged- 38.89%, students with
disabilities- 27.87%, Homeless- 19.35%, English learners- 24.33%. This data showed mostly maintained rates of proficiency for 2017-18,
with increases in proficiency for African American students and students with disabilities in both ELA and math. The District’s local measures
allowed for further desegregation of students' academic performance data in ELA and math and were consistent with the student groups
identified in the California Dashboard as needing additional support. Star Reading and Math Assessment administered in August 2020, to
