Excels Summer
School Program
Description
District staff will provide English Learners in grades 7 - 12 a summer
program specific to addressing students’ literacy skills. The summer
program will provide EL students with instruction in reading, math, and
social-emotional support at both the middle and high school levels.
Enrichment experiences to support English learners will also enhance
program effectiveness by engaging students in learning experiences
(e.g. coding, digital art, etc.) relevant to college and career
preparedness.

Counselor
A district-designated English Learner Counselor will work with English
learner students, families, and site administrators to provide direct
support in the areas of monitoring and tracking student academic
progress and reclassification status as well as navigating postsecondary college and career options for families. Additional high
school counselors are designated to work directly with overseeing
English learner's 4-year graduation plan, which includes access to the
core curriculum, academic intervention support, and courses specific
to supporting English learners.

English learner support systems that provide a strong instructional focus based on the English learner roadmap, ELPAC data analysis,
curriculum, and pedagogy alignment (A/S 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, and 3.5) were fully implemented. In addition, programs that support college and
career goals for English learners were supported by Secondary Designated EL Counselors and the summer school language excels program
(A/S 3.5 and 3.6).
Successes of implementation:
Professional learning focused on building an asset-oriented approach for English learners using the guiding principles of the English Learner
Roadmap. District instructional coaches worked with teachers to support English language arts and English Language Development at three
high needs elementary schools, and EL support for all elementary schools all through the lens of the EL Roadmap principles. These
