The District Program Specialist provided training for EL counselors, Secondary Curriculum team members, and Elementary Teacher
Leaders. Additionally, the EL Program Specialist participated in facilitating twelve meetings for ELPDs that were combined with both the EL
Counselors and Teacher Leaders to increase professional collaboration regarding English Learners with regard to reclassification
requirements, comparative assessments, and ongoing monitoring for reclassified students (RFEP). For further support, six ELLevation
Collaborative Meetings were held to assist teachers and site administration with the use of the EL student information system, Elevation
program which digitally facilitates the forms for reclassification and monitoring. Additionally, the platform houses EL data that informs
instruction and programmatic change to meet the academic achievement needs of English learners.
The District's Special Education Supervisors and staff provided Professional Development in November and January for elementary and
secondary paraeducators who work with EL students with special needs. The PD will focus on training paraeducators to address students’
social/emotional needs and academic needs. Furthermore, paraeducators will assist in small group settings to utilize students’ prior
knowledge to address their academic needs. Based on data collected during the PDs, a high percentage of paraeducators indicated that the
content learned was meaningful, they learned something new and will try a strategy learned during the training.
In the summer of 2021, English Learners in grades 7 - 12 participated in the Language Excels program which is designed to additional
instruction in reading, math, and social-emotional support at both the middle and high school levels. Additional enrichment experiences were
provided to enhance program effectiveness by engaging students in learning experiences (e.g. coding, digital art, etc.) relevant to college
and career preparedness.
The English Learner Counselor works with English learner students, families, and site administrators to provide direct support in the areas of
monitoring and tracking student academic progress and reclassification status as well as navigating post-secondary college and career
options for families. This individual coordinates middle and high school counselors who are designated to work directly with overseeing
English learners' 4-year graduation plan, which includes access to the core curriculum, academic intervention support, and courses specific
to supporting English learners. The EL Counselor effectively collaborates with the EL Program Specialist and English Language Program
Designees at school sites. The collaboration increases the District reclassification rate and ensures that those students remaining in the EL
Program are appropriately serviced. English learner's graduation rates have increased from prior years, moving from 79% graduation rate in
prior to the pandemic to 87% in Spring 2021.
A description of any changes made to the planned goal, metrics, desired outcomes, or actions for the coming year that resulted from
reflections on prior practice.
Since there were several disruptions in professional learning due to Covid staff shortages, English learner roadmap training will be refined
and adjusted to ensure all teachers at school sites across the district receive the necessary professional learning and tools that might have
been missed in the prior school year.
