2023.03 -- US Storybook 2022 updated 4.14 - Flipbook - Page 2
FOREWORD
In my five-year tenure at PeacePlayers United States, I’ve had a front row seat through a lot of growth,
evolution and impact. In 2022 the thing I was most proud of at home in Detroit, was the expansion of our
summer enrichment program in partnership with the Detroit Public School Community District. With
the support of DPSCD, we were able to engage 100+ youth, 5 days per week, 4 hours each day, in deep
rooted activities and dialogue that amplified their understanding and buyin to our uniting core values..
Not only was it heartening to see advancement locally in my hometown, the magnitude of development
and progress towards making this world a more equitable and peaceful place in each of our five U.S. cities,
was nothing short of monumental. In regards to this year’s edition of the U.S. Storybook, I am excited for
our stakeholders, partners, other youth organizations seeking inspiration, parents and most importantly,
the young people who make PeacePlayers go, to read some of these stories and feel joy, hope and
encouragement as we reflect on a historic year. Not only does this storybook highlight some of the amazing
journeys and accomplishments of PeacePlayers U.S. It also tells an amazing story of hope and resilience, as
we were able to create a new normal after the COVID-19 pandemic. In closing, I would like to express my
gratitude and deep appreciation for our national support system and partners. To our founding partner Nike
and our other supporting partners at National Basketball Players Association, the NBA Foundation, Kellogg
Foundation, Laureus, and our many individual donors, I say thank you! Your dedication, commitment and
belief in the work we do ignites and drives us to continuously think creatively and intentionally about
cultivating our youth into global change agents, combating inequity and doing our part to create systemic
change through the power of sport and community.
