Adult Basic Education
Improving Academic Skills
and Preparation for the GED®
The Adult Basic Education (ABE)
department is a leader in helping
adults achieve functional literacy
and important life skills. BCCC is
the largest provider of literacy
services in Baltimore City and provides reading, writing, and math
preparation for individuals who are
not academically ready to enroll in
a GED® Test Preparation class.
Before you can register for our
free GED® Test Preparation or
Basic Skills (Pre GED®) course,
you must be assessed to determine
your appropriate placement level.
Attend an information session to
learn about the testing and
registration process.
GED® Preparation Classes
GED® classes are designed for adults
18 or older who have not earned
their high school diplomas and who
are not currently enrolled in a school
program. Instruction helps students
prepare to take the GED® Test so
they can receive their Maryland High
School Diploma. The GED® Test
consists of four program areas:
Social Studies, Science, Reasoning
through Language Arts, and
Mathematical Reasoning.
To register for any ABE or GED®
courses and the GED® Test, visit
