Certified Medicine Aide
Designed for Geriatric Nursing
Assistants currently employed
in long-term care facilities, this
course teaches participants to
recognize, safely prepare, and
administer medications. The course
consists of 48 hours of classroom
instruction followed by 40 hours
of clinical instruction.

• CMA Clinical

Medicine Aide Update
This course provides the training
necessary to satisfy Maryland Board
of Nursing recertification requirements
for Medicine Aides and has been
approved by Maryland Board
of Nursing. The training includes
a 2-hour assessment test at the
completion of training, as required
by Maryland Board of Nursing.
Course Series Requirements
• Proof of current employment as
a Geriatric Nursing Assistant in
a comprehensive care facility or
extended care facility and a letter
of recommendation from the
Director of Nursing at that facility.
Note: Employment by a health care
employment agency does not qualify.
• Proof of at least one year of
full-time experience or equivalent
as a nursing assistant in a comprehensive care facility or extended
care facility in Maryland.
• Proof of experience in basic
patient care procedures.
• Applicants must successfully take
a Math & Reading Assessment.
Course Update Requirements
• Possess a current MBON license
as a Certified Nursing Assistant
and Geriatric Nursing Assistant
from the Maryland Board of
Nursing. (Proof of certification required)
• Possess a current Medicine Aide
certificate.
• Present a letter from a facility DON
verifying 100 hours of practice as
a CMA, 8 hours as a GNA and 16
hours as a CNA within the last two
years.
