President George W. Bush had a pet longhorn cow named Ofelia, at his ranch. President Ronald Reagan had horses at his
ranch.
Teddy Roosevelt9s favorite horse Bleistein, and Renown, Roswell, Rusty, Jocko Root, Grey
Dawn, Wyoming and Yagenka, all horses, were Presiden}al pets. General and Judge were
carriage horses, Algonquin, was Archie Roosevelt9s Shetland pony, Emily Spinach, was Alice
Roosevelt9s snake, snakes belonging to Quen}n Roosevelt, Josiah, badger, Rabbit named
Peter, Two Kangaroo Rats, a 昀氀ying squirrel, and Guinea pigs named Admiral Dewey, Dr.
Johnson, Bob Evans, Bishop Doan, and Father O9Grady. President Theodore Roosevelt9s
household also included a lion, hyena, wildcat, coyote, 昀椀ve bears, zebra, lizard, pig, and a
raccoon.
The Roosevelts' pony was taken into the family quarters with help from the Footman Charlie
Reeder, he helped the Roosevelt children sneak the family pony, Algonquin, up to Archie's bedroom in the White House
elevator. Archie, who was sick with measles, was thrilled to see the pony and let out a scream and jumped at his pony.
The startled pony slipped and fell to the 昀氀oor, making a loud noise. So loud it brought the whole family rushing to the
bedroom.
President Lyndon B. Johnson had pet hamsters. President John F. Kennedy9s
daughter Caroline Kennedy had a pony named Macaroni, the family also had
ponies named Tex and Leprechaun, hamsters named Debbie and Billie, Zsa Zsa,
a rabbit, and horses named Sardar and Rufus.
Many of the pets men}oned here have been referred to as folklore and fun facts but many of the animals men}oned
