You might wonder just who the Peery family is and where they come from. We will start with a brief
history of the first members of the Peery family to settle in Blount County.
Wynn and Ira9s grandparents moved from Wytheville, Virginia to the Prospect Community of Blount County
Tennessee in 1830. Their grandfather, Andrew Peery, was born in 1806 and died in 1879. Their grandmother,
Rosanah Kinser Peery, was born in 1802 and died in 1876. Andrew Peery had a tanyard on Ellejoy Creek in
1837. They are both buried at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Wynn and Ira9s parents, Martha Jane Medlin and Andrew Peery, had eight boys and two girls. Andrew
Peery was born in 1844 and died in 1914. Martha Jane Medlin Peery was born in 1855 and died in 1918. Mr.
and Mrs. Peery are buried at Bethlehem. A. Peery was a Civil War veteran, a sergeant with the 3rd
Tennessee Union Cavalry, who survived the sinking of the Sultana in 1865.
In 1918 Ira Peery married Magnolia
