LIVING IN THE WILDERNESS
My new geographically challenged friend surveyed our home
with a critical eye. He hadn9t lived south of Richmond long
enough to have figured out that sugar draws more flies than salt.
His caustic nature didn9t bother me having spent so many long
days in that compressed area we call the Northeast. This
Southerner felt sure that he9d become acquainted with our
slower pace and gentle manners soon. If a black eye or two
occurred in his learning curve, or his breakfast was dumped in
his lap by a surly waitress when he complained about the grits, I
would gleefully explain why he was at fault.
