Come Take a Hike with Me
On this late winter day, we are taking a hike and will share how we prepare for a hike. You might like some of
the suggestions and use them on your next hike. First, we put on good sturdy hiking boots, a comfortable pair
of jeans or slacks. then fill a water bottle and put it in a backpack. Along with the water you will need to put a
few things in your pack to eat along the way, we take a few energy bars along with several candy bars and a
few cans of pork n beans.
Packs of tuna are never welcome to take on a long hike because they may attract bears or other wild animals.
We add a sandwich or two for each of us. When everything is packed, we are ready for our hike. Remember
to take a walking stick that fits your size. You can add a field guidebook of birds or animals and their tracks
if you want but when I go on a hike, I love to just look around in the quite of the forest listening to the
different bird and animal calls or just stand and listen to the different sounds of nature. The sound of water
trickling across and gurgling down the rocks and watching the water life swimming around and going under
the rocks making their little trails of mud following them.
It is just so peaceful sitting in the woods and taking in the beauty of winter closing out and spring starting to
show by the trees and flowers coming into bloom. So, we get up and walk to a semi shaded area where it is
not too hot and stop for a rest and to eat a late morning snack, we put the food on a wide taller rock with
another rock nearby to sit and rest. After enjoying our snack with some good cool water, we pack everything
back into the backpack, making sure we have everything.
When hiking remember take only pictures and leave only footprints, you will have your memories of the
hike with you. Hope you have enjoyed our hike today and we shall take another one in a couple of weeks or
so.
