Precious Memories 3 My Grandmother
By Linda Kaye
This is a photo of my Grandmother, my
Grandchildren never had the privilege
of knowing her. I was told she was
around 15 years old here. So, even I
didn't know her yet -- she is beautiful in
my eyes. Our ancestors lived such a
humble, frugal lifestyle. And I wish I
had paid more attention to their ways.
They cooked from scratch, grew their
own food, made, or fixed what they
needed, made use of what they had.
They didn9t run to the store for every
little thing like we do. Buying new was
almost unheard of, they repurposed
Everything. They worked hard for what
they had, they worked hard for what
they ate, they worked hard for what
they wore. They worked hard for
everything.
Clothes were simple and many were
handmade, they took care of their
Sunday best because it was hard to
come by, and special. They recycled
before recycling was popular, they did
it out of necessity. They made organic
food before it was popular, raising,
canning, and preserving vegetables,
meats, and fruits.
I guess the moral to this story is: In this
time of shortages, rising prices, and
unforeseen resolutions…We should all
be prepared to use it up, wear it out,
make it do, or do without. Like our
ancestors did. ❤ PS…My mother was
a striking resemblance of her.
