Joseph Lodge was living in the state of Pennsylvania in 1863 when his father died and left young Joseph the responsibility
of providing for his family. At the age of 15 Joseph moved to Wilmington Delaware to train as a machinist at Poole9s
Machine Shop.
After his training Joseph went to Central and South America. He returned to the United States and in 1877 Joseph Lodge
moved to South Pittsburg, Tennessee. This small town is located between the Appalachian Mountains and the Tennessee
River.
In 1896 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, Joseph Lodge took a former railroad foundry and established a cast iron
manufacturing company on the corner of Cedar Avenue and First Street in South Pittsburg. (
