VOLUNTEERS MAKE
OUR WORK POSSIBLE
#N
ationalVolunteerWeek, April 18th-24th, 2021 provided us with the
opportunity to recognize all the amazing and dedicated individuals
who lend their time and effort to support the mission of the Charles River
Center. The support of our volunteers makes our work possible.
A special shout out to a group of students from Ursuline Academy in Dedham,
St. Joseph School in Needham, and Martha Jones Elementary School in
Westwood, who volunteered to assist with a Patriot’s Day Spring Clean Up at
the Paul Merritt Center. We applaud your willingness to take the time to make
a difference in your community!
After the Spring Clean Up, members of the Wellesley Service League joined
day habilitation participants to plant flowers, vegetables, and herbs in several
galvanized raised beds outside of the Paul Merritt Center. Our persons-served are
thrilled to participate in all aspects of the gardening project, including planting,
watering and tending to the
variety of tomatoes, peppers,
herbs and even potatoes.
Cannot wait to see how the
potato harvest does this fall!

Our program sites in Needham and Natick are now open and we are offering internship
opportunities including social work (BSW), human services, ABA, psychology and more.
We need volunteers to help in a variety of capacities. Whether
it’s helping to organize an event or program, serving on our
fundraising committee, assisting us in marketing, or acting as
an ambassador for our organization, there are plenty of ways
to lend a hand.

ack in February, during Phase 1 of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, Charles
River Center partnered with Pelmeds™ Pharmacy to host community vaccination
events at the Paul Merritt Center. Charles River Center hosted two separate clinics,
which allowed over 100 local community members 75 years old or over and
anyone eligible under Phase 1 to receive both doses of the COVID-19 vaccination.
PelMeds™ President, Bhuren Patel, noted, “Our core belief is to provide access
to all the members of our community. By providing this community event,
in partnership with the Charles River Center, we are ensuring that our older
community members have access to the vaccination.” Anne-Marie Bajwa, President
and CEO of the Charles River Center, echoed this sentiment: “It is our pleasure
to be able to offer our facility for this important event and to be able to give back
to our community that has supported us throughout the pandemic.”
