As the Creative Director and second-generation owner of Crystorama,
Nancy Lonoff is well versed in the ins and outs of good design. So,
when it came to designing her home, which she shares with her
husband, three boys, and their black English lab, Ms. Finn, she used
design and decoration to make spaces that focus on relaxation and
comfort to enhance and amplify her family’s life.
Nancy and her family have lived in their Long Island, NY home for
about 18 years. They went slow and steady with updating to allow
them to understand what was essential to change, add or remove in
the house. She wanted a bright, airy, light-filled home that was laidback and comfortable for entertaining friends and family. “I wanted the
environment to ooze with sunshine, so in my home, there are plenty
of white walls, warm woods, and textures where the light bounces
around the rooms creating a cocoon of comfort,” she says.
Entering her home, each room cohesively pulls together natural and
organic elements creating a relaxed, playful, yet personal touch. Mixing
of rattans, ceramics, and textiles creates this beautiful ModernBohemian Farmhouse style that is masterfully composed and artfully
intimate. Her controlled palette of neutrals evokes simple, thoughtful
intentions from her furniture pieces, objects, and art. “I started with
neutral modern, comfortable furniture, then incorporated textures and
textiles to create interest rather than introducing too much color.” She
says that decorating with a neutral color palette provides her with a
space of calmness and warmth.
“My home consists of light-toned woods, relaxed soft textiles
mixed with statement lighting,” she says. Nancy’s inspiration
comes from everything she has been exposed to in her daily
journeys. She explained media, nature, travel, and emotions are
constantly changing and evolving her aesthetics. She never gets
tired of exploring and discovering new styles, but the overarching
design she incorporates will always be laid-back with a
welcoming vibe.
Nancy’s favorite spot in her home to unwind, find joy, and create
memories is her kitchen. During quarantine, she completely
renovated this space to make it more functional as this was the
location her family primarily gravitates to. “Structurally, I wanted
the rooms to flow better. We opened a wall allowing you to move
easily from the entrance to the family room to the kitchen. My
previous kitchen had rows of dark wooden cabinets and minimal
windows. So, my goal was to create a bright open space with
plenty of windows, doors, and a large white center island to give
the eye some place to rest as it travels around the sun-filled
room,” she says.
Home is a powerful word for Nancy. It is a place to heal, keep
us safe and bring solace to her family. What we do within these
walls shape our mood, affect our productivity, and influences our
outlook on life. She likes to think that her home isn’t a place; it’s
a feeling.
Lighting pictured in these photographs can be found in the Avon, Rylee, Morgan, Abbott, and Dumont collections.
