Mixing patterns, colors, and eras are the specialty of Jewel
Marlowe. She uses a gathered, layered approach to create
her eclectic style with color and pattern all pulled together in
a glamourous way. Jewel has a knack for using splashes of
beautiful color, attention-grabbing patterns, and textural details
to create a high-end-looking, curated, and soulful home.
As a military spouse, Jewel and her family of six have moved
thirteen times all over the US and England. “During these
adventures, I have gained an appreciation for various styles
and eras. England was where I found my love for soulful
elements. I started going to antique auctions and refurbishing
and reselling vintage pieces. I value the treasures we picked
up along the way because they tell our story. Through this
journey, I have realized that my favorite designs usually involve
an eclectic mix of old and new,” she says.

Jewel purchased a 1994 Center Hall Colonial-style home in
2012 in the suburbs of Washington DC. Wall to wall of the
house was beige with 90’s finishes. Room by room, Jewel
slowly infused bold colors, wallpapers, fabrics, and textures
in an eclectic and elegant way. “While our home may feel
formal, there aren’t any off-limit spaces. With four kids, we
genuinely LIVE in each of the rooms. I have utilized kidfriendly fabrics and tried to make each room in our home
cohesive yet unique. So, it doesn’t matter if we spend time
together in one of the living rooms, kitchen, or dining room;
each space is special. I think our kids will remember and
appreciate that someday,” she says.
Jewel is happiest when all the electronics are stored away,
and the six spend time laughing and relaxing together. Jewel
designed her home to match an emotion or a mood, but her
overall goal was to create rooms for her and her family to
make meaningful memories.
