VISITATION
While most of the hotels, restaurants and
activities close from mid-September to midMay, Denali is still open in the winter months!
Opportunities for aurora viewing, snowshoeing
and cross-country skiing are all abundant.
The community of Healy, 12 miles
north of the entry to Denali National
Park & Preserve, hosts year-round
accommodations, restaurants and a fullservice grocery store.
Part of your adventure can include a
mere 4.5 hours of daylight (around the
winter solstice in December), sub-zero
temperatures (as low as -40 are possible
from November to March) and the beauty
of freshly fallen snow as far as the eye can
see. Because our community is so rural,
and has no street lighting, the aurora awaits
simply by turning off the porch lights and
stepping outside.
For those unused to winter driving, we are
happy to provide recommendations for
rental car companies that provide 4-wheel
drive vehicles and winter tires, or ways to
visit using the reduced, winter season
train schedule.
