VEHICLE
COMING FROM ANCHORAGE:
Plan to spend 5 to 7 hours
driving north to Denali,
depending on traffic and
road construction (www.
alaskanavigator.org). Allow
additional time for sightseeing,
as there are numerous
opportunities to view Denali,
should the weather cooperate.
Once you leave the Matsu Valley,
you’ll encounter long stretches
of highway without amenities,
so make sure to stop for gas or
a restroom when you see one!
COMING FROM FAIRBANKS:
he drive south to Denali is usually
2 to 2.5 hours, depending on
traffic and road construction. The
midpoint is the riverside town of
Nenana, which offers opportunities
for restrooms and gas.
*Important note: There is VERY
limited vehicle/tire services in our
area. The closest option for most
repairs is Fairbanks. Roadside
assistance can be extremely
helpful in Alaska, as a year’s basic
subscription is much cheaper than
paying for a 100 mile tow bill.
Consider AAA or another similar
service if you’ll be road tripping!
TRAIN
The Alaska Railroad connects Fairbanks
and Seward, and offers travel north and
southbound daily during the summer
months. Multiple companies offer tours
on the rail, but regardless of who you
book with, you’ll travel on the same
schedule and enjoy the same scenic
views. Make sure you check with your
accommodation provider, to see if they
provide transportation to and from the
train station.
