Future
Depending on the point of view, 10 years is either a really
long time or a really short time. It would have been hard
to predict 10 years ago what the world would look like
today, but still, we will be brave and predict the future.
Which of the current megatrends shaping the world will
most affect the future of angel investing?
Amel Gaily, Managing Director, FiBAN:
“First, the typical portfolio range for an angel investor
has been a two-hour driving distance from their home.
Then it became a two-hour flight distance.
Antti Viitanen, Deal Flow Manager, FiBAN:
“I predict that connections between IoT devices and
data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning will be
developed during the next decade. Adding augmented
reality to the mix, new types of services and platforms
will arise and provide users new services curated for us.”
“We will enjoy all of this
from different wearables
like glasses and from the
seats of our self-driving
cars.”
“Next, the range will be
anywhere in the world.”
Technological breakthroughs is naturally a given, but
also megatrends such as climate change and resource
scarcity, rapid urbanisation, shifts in global economic power and demographic and social change will play
their part. Here’s a few glimpses from our crystal balls.

Kim Väisänen, Business Angel of the Year 2017, Board
Member 2021, FiBAN:
Also, as startups will be increasingly geographically decentralized so will investor syndicates as well.”
Annukka Mickelsson, Board Member 2020, Vice Chair
of the Board 2021, FiBAN:
“In ten years FiBAN will be the key player of the Startup
Nation. FiBAN’s role will be crucial in lowering the tresholds of angel investing and making the risks transparent. FiBAN’s efforts will make angel investing more accessible to many.”
“Angel syndicates have
come to stay and I’m
doubtful that will change
in the next 10 years.”
Kim Väisänen, Business Angel of the Year 2017,
Board Member 2021, FiBAN
“FiBAN will have further
internationalized and built
strong connections with
international accelerators
and investors.”
“Now that the process of signing contracts has finally
digitalized, it would be peculiar if the rest of the process
and managing investments wouldn’t. Even after 10 years
we will still be meeting other people as that is the salt of
angel investing.“
