The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program will prepare students for entrylevel practice as a nurse. Upon successful completion of the program, you will
be able to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered
Nurses (NCLEX-RN). After successful completion of this exam, you will be a
registered nurse and can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including
hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, rehabilitation centers, physicians’ offices
and urgent care clinics, long-term care and home healthcare agencies, among
other areas. Our intensive curriculum prepares learners to excel in nursing core
courses and to practice with competence, confidence and compassion.

Make someone smile! Dental assistants interact with patients and assist
dentists in providing quality dental care. Dental assistants may also
expose and process dental X-rays, prepare and sterilize instruments and
equipment, take impressions of patients’ teeth, polish (coronal) teeth, assist
the dentist with various procedures, communicate with other healthcare
professionals and manage some office tasks. Dental assistants are classified
as licensed professionals in the state of Nebraska.

The Associate of Health Sciences degree allows students to earn an
Associate of Sciences degree that has a wide applicability to healthcare
fields and prepares students for a number of educational opportunities
beyond that degree. This degree may apply toward a specific health
profession program at SCC or transfer toward a health-related program at
another college or university. The Associate of Science in Health Sciences
supports degree work that can be accomplished during the time a student
may be waiting for admission to a specific program.

the two fastest-growing groups during 2014–24. The Healthcare Services
certificate provides you with entry-level, flexible skills to work in hospitals,
medical facilities and physicians’ offices.
We provide coursework and training for this certificate through the
healthcare programs on campus, in the Continuing Education Division, dualcredit health pathways offered through The Career Academy and Southeast
Nebraska Career Academy Partnership (SENCAP) and through our six
Learning Centers in our 15-county service area.

chiropractors, optometrists and other specialties.

Certificate
Polysomnographic technologists are allied health professionals who
work under the supervision of a licensed sleep physician to assist in the
education, evaluation, treatment and chronic care management of patients
with sleep disorders. Sleep technologists are experts at fitting, titrating and
troubleshooting PAP devices, which are used to eliminate sleep-disordered
breathing and improve quality of life. Sleep technologists obtain certification
through board examination to acquire the credential of Registered
Polysomnographic Technologist.

Paramedic

Paramedics provide medical care by preventing or reducing mortality and
morbidity due to illness and injury. As a patient advocate, paramedics seek
to be proactive in affecting long-term healthcare by working in conjunction
with other provider agencies, networks and organizations. Traditional roles
are in pre-hospital medicine with ambulance services, fire departments and
flight programs, as well as within hospital critical-access care areas.
