The importance of giving back to society
Ana, giving back to society is the nal step in creating balance and happiness in your life. We must have a connection
beyond our family and friends to the broader community. Study after study shows that people who are involved in
causes they support are happier. This makes sense. Giving back creates a connection that helps create a more
purposeful life. There are three ways to give: 1.) Time 2.) Talent and 3.) Treasure. You should give all three.
How to give
1. Give thoughtfully. You should plan out your charitable giving each year.
2. Give "sel shly". Support your passions.
Follow your passion. Like to go to a museum? Join and get free membership. Like to walk on a trail? Protect and
maintain that trail. Ana, I asked you about making an impact. Here is where you should direct your efforts:

Social services / poverty: 30
How much to give
Think of your charitable giving as a glide path. A journey. Part of your mission is to get to a strong nancial position
so that you are able to make a bigger impact on the causes you support. As a guideline, consider 1% to 4% of your
income as a range but $4,000 per year is a great gure for you, for now.
