MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
As we gather here in celebration, I am impressed and encouraged by the vision and achievements
of tonight’s honorees. I am also deeply grateful, humbled, and inspired by the families we serve
who invite us into their homes and hearts so that we can be of assistance as they navigate the
challenges of ALS. Tonight we are here unified in our partnership to end ALS and in support of
the mission of the Golden West Chapter.
Many of you are here with us this evening because you or someone you care about has been
impacted by ALS. Some of you are here because you have lost someone close to you to this
devastating disease. The people we love transform us through the act of knowing them and
inspire our actions in many ways. We welcome you this evening and are honored to be together
to share this meaningful experience.
The Golden West Chapter is committed to ending ALS through innovation, collaboration, and
fiscal responsibility. We continue to advance our mission priorities, with more programs and
services than ever before, and are relentless in the pursuit of effective treatments and cures for
ALS. We work to be the go-to resource of information and support, and inclusion for all people
impacted by ALS is how we live our commitment to our mission.
Working together, we have built a community, dedicated to funding scientific discovery,
providing compassionate care and support, inspiring others to action, and empowering people
affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. We believe strongly in treating everyone as a
valued partner and recognize that every person brings a unique perspective and experience that
can help unlock the mysteries of ALS.
It is the strength of our relationships that anchor and fuel our actions at the Golden West Chapter.
We are a group of people who share a passion and a purpose that is so important, it defines who
we are as a community. We see the world through the lens of our mutual experiences and are
building on that collective history to create real change. We have something else in common we will never give up.
When talking about adversity and grief, writer Nora McInerny once said, “We don’t ‘move on’ ...
We move forward ... These are the experiences that mark us and make us, just as much as the
joyful ones, and just as permanently.” This could be said of each of us here today. Resilience is a
learned skill. As powerful as our challenges can be, in the hardest moments, we can still connect,
share, persist, and love.
Our deepest thanks to all of you for being here with us today. It is your support that is helping
to power advocacy, research, expert care services, and meaningful programs and activities,
like tonight’s Champions for Cures and Care. We are grateful for your dedication to the ALS
community and your commitment to the Golden West Chapter.
It is only together that we will defeat ALS.
