Excellence in Reuse Award
IMAGO
By | Gage Bradford
S
tarted in 1978 by two social workers, Imago is an ecological education
organization rooted in the concept that living in harmony with the natural
world is not only good for the planet, but good for our families and our
communities. Through preservation of urban nature (37 acres if you’re
counting), hands-on green workshops, and educational youth programs, Imago
has been steadfast in their commitment to fostering an exciting and
sustainable future that benefits us all. It’s that commitment, even in the
turbulent times of 2020, which led the Imago staff to create and launch the
Queen City Thingery and win the 2020 Excellence in Reuse Award!
What’s the Queen City Thingery (QCT) you ask?
A library of
things is a
simple way for
us to reduce
consumerism,
be easier on
the planet,
and build
community by
sharing what
we’ve got.

Mo Curran, Imago Community Educator, describes
it as a library of things. “Like a traditional library,
you can browse our inventory and borrow items
for a week at a time. But, unlike books and
movies, the Queen City Thingery’s inventory
features a selection of tools and outdoor gear. A
library of things is a simple way for us to reduce
consumerism, be easier on the planet, and build
community by sharing what we’ve got.”
