incinnati’s Ronald McDonald House
provides a home for critically ill
children and their families from around
the world while they receive life-saving
medical
care
at
nearby
Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Unfortunately, limited capacity resulted
in
some
families
unable
to
take
advantage of Ronald McDonald House’s
services. Thus, their Cincinnati facility is
expanding from 78 rooms to 177.
Ronald McDonald House has had a successful recycling program for years. In addition to
all the cardboard they recycle, they have mixed recycling receptacles available in
common areas. After hearing from the families that they would like to be able to recycle
in their rooms, Matthew Coffey, director of operations, and Elizabeth Bayer, operations
coordinator, decided that there is no better time to make that happen than now with the
opening of their expansion.
Mr. Coffey and Ms. Bayer contacted Hamilton County
Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) for help. The District provided advice, and a
recycling bin for each room through the District’s Let’s Stop Waste Program. The District
also provided signage suggestions so that no matter what part of the world a family is
from, and no matter what language they speak, they will know what can be recycled right
here in Cincinnati.
Thank you Ronald McDonald House for giving families the tools to practice simple habits
like recycling while away from home.
