iversion rates measure - usually by weight - the portion of waste NOT sent to
the landfill. By tracking the diversion rate in a community, we can easily
measure the effectiveness of their current reuse, recycling, and organic
composting programs.
After the data rolled in and the numbers were tallied, there was one common
thread that set our top communities apart from the rest - and that was organic
diversion.
Best Township
SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP
26% diversion rate with 2/3 of residents subscribing to curbside recycling
Decreased their waste generated by 261 tons compared to the previous year
The free community recycling drop-off site diverted 450 tons alone
Best Village
AMBERLEY VILLAGE
61% diversion rate - the second highest among all Hamilton County communities
The yard trimmings and leaf collection programs, diverted 825 tons alone
The annual One Stop Drop incorporated paper shredding, electronics recycling,
clothing and textile donation, and a tire program into its event
Best City
CITY OF BLUE ASH
67% diversion rate - the highest among all Hamilton County communities
Curbside yard trimmings, seasonal leaf collections, and the large brush pick-up
call-In services resulted in 7,935 tons of yard trimmings being diverted
Hosts an annual Neighborhood Clean-Up Day where yard trimmings, hazardous
material, tires, and even personal document shredding is acceptable
