IGNITE women are storming

meeting with legislators to
champion policies that uplift
women and young people.
IGNITE trains young
women to understand and
participate in passing new
legislation. Sometimes our
women experience the thrill
of seeing a bill they are
championing become law.
Other times the bills fail to
move forward. Regardless
of the outcome, IGNITE
women actively engaged in
the policy making process
and learn what it means to
This year IGNITE’s policy platform focused on
women’s equity and voter access. Next year
IGNITE is expanding our advocacy efforts to
champion civic education and an accurate
IGNITE women are advocating for legislation that
removes taxes on menstrual products in order to
make them more affordable for all. Women wrote
their legislators, testified on behalf of bills and met
with individual policy makers.
As a result:
In California, Governor Newsom created a budget
line item to cover the cost of repealing the sales
tax charged on menstrual products.
In Washington, House Bill 1053 - popularly known
as an effort to repeal the “Tampon Tax” - will
move forward in the 2020 legislative cycle.
