Honoring A Tradition
Of Ingenuity
Founded in 1851, fast-growing Round Rock, Texas has become an innovation
hub. For its new 66,000-sq.-ft. library, the city chose an ingenious design
that employs modern materials, yet respects the city’s architectural heritage.
And helping to tie it all together was a Round Rock “resident” of more than
30 years: Acme Brick Company.
This expansive project occupies a full city block and includes a 300-space
parking structure. The goal was a warm modern architectural expression
compatible with downtown Round Rock’s use of exterior limestone and
tan brick – achieved with a diverse but visually cohesive palette of cladding
materials. These include glass, metal accents, dark brick - and most notably,
KeraTwin and KeraShape terracotta ceramic panels from Agrob Buchtal.
Four different terracotta applications were employed, using six different
ceramic profiles.
Acme’s Innovative Building Products (IBP) arm prepared a detailed set of
shop drawings to illustrate numerous assemblies and profiles across the four
applications. IBP worked out numerous connection details with a range of
furring, attachment rails and fasteners for each unique combination of wall
type and ceramic application.
A library challenges its users to seek new information, synthesize it, and
then boldly apply it. Architects across Texas are doing the same with the
cladding library of Acme Brick Company. Contact your Acme representative to
