Halford Busby provided construc琀椀on cost es琀椀mates on the renova琀椀on of the
49-year-old Bob Gilmore Senior Center in Killeen, Texas. The center was previously
condemned. The project encompasses renova琀椀ng approximately 18,000 square
feet and new construc琀椀on of approximately 3,300 square feet. Construc琀椀on costs
are expected to be ~$7.4 million.
On the exterior, the client wanted to add visual interest for an updated, modern
look. The transformed building will include mul琀椀-purpose banquet facili琀椀es,
administra琀椀ve space, a lobby and recep琀椀on area, exercise rooms, mee琀椀ng rooms
and a second gym. Public corridors connec琀椀ng the mee琀椀ng rooms with the lobby
will be added so guests won’t be required to walk through the gym to navigate the
building. Other new features will include:
▪ A covered porte-cochere ▪ Pickle ball courts,
for an entrance dedicated ▪ Covered outdoor sea琀椀ng,
for senior ci琀椀zens’
▪ Space for billiards,
easy entry,
card playing and
▪ Addi琀椀onal restrooms,
computer use, and
▪ A theatre,
▪ A Wellness Room
that will allow guests
to receive health
consulta琀椀ons.
While the facility was previously known as a place for senior ci琀椀zens to gather, the
expansion and renova琀椀on will encourage locals of all ages to use the rebranded
Killeen Community Center. The community is excited about the opportunity this
brings to develop mentoring rela琀椀onships across genera琀椀ons. The grand opening
of the center is expected in August 2024.
