New Life Members of
Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP!
Membership is the lifeblood of the NAACP. Today there are approximately 2,200 adult branches, youth
councils, and college chapters in 50 states, 5 countries and the District of Columbia. The Association depends
on our members generosity to ensure the NAACP mission and vision is carried out. We depend on members
to keep the flames of freedom burning bright. We Need You! We invite you to join our efforts by becoming
an active member. For a more vibrant and visible NAACP branch, your thoughts and ideas are welcomed.
We appreciate all our members but there is an elite level of membership that we recognize during this
annual event – new life members.
Joy
Blevins
Joy Blevins joined the branch 2 ½ years ago after relocating from Los Angeles.
During her many years in LA, she worked in various Department of Health
Services and Department of Public Health Programs that served a high proportion
of people of color, low-income residents and other marginalized individuals
who lacked equitable services and opportunities. Her current active involvement
with the branch’s Political Action Committee allows her to learn more about the
Chapel Hill and Carrboro communities and continue social justice work (“good
trouble”) in our community and be part of the work to empower communities of
color and other marginalized groups toward a more racially just and equitable
community.

Branch.
