Hello fellow cattlemen and women,
Not that it was all bad, but 2020 is over. Everyone around here is

tired of the stress caused by the pandemic and politics. We are glad
to be able to shift gears and are focused on cattle. We are definitely
looking forward to Spring and calving season! The winter weather has been nothing to complain about but we couldn’t get through it without at
least one week of extremely cold temps and wind….or this wouldn’t be ND. We are so close to Spring though and looking forward to rain and
green grass.
We have put a lot of pressure on our breeding program over the years. Our goal is to develop our own bulls so that they produce bulls
for customers which sire calves with calving ease, marbling, and growth. We use functional phenotype, DNA, and indexes to make genetic
selections. Finishing our feeder calves and collecting carcass data for almost a decade now, has helped us make more targeted breeding
decisions. The RightMate program also looks at DNA in a more in-depth manner. RightMate is designed to help you determine if a bull is more
dominant for one particular trait or all traits. There is more information in the catalog or you can contact Marty Ropp or the ASA for additional
information
Profitability is the most important thing we select for. If you look at the All Purpose Index (API) and compare to breed averages, you can
see that the bulls and heifers we sell are some of the highest averages in the country. By focusing on the economic indexes, the API and the
Terminal Index (TI), it has helped us add more value to our cattle which in turn increases the value of our customers’ cattle. Our goal is for you
to benefit from using the genetics we work hard to continue to develop. We offer some of our best genetics so you can raise great females
and produce the kind of feeder cattle that feedlots want to buy.
Thank you to our customers for trusting in our program. We look forward to visiting with as many of you as we can, either at the ranch
beforehand or on sale day. You are encouraged to visit ahead of time at the ranch, just give us a call. If the weather doesn’t cooperate on sale
day or your busy and up to your knees in calves already, DV Auction will be live streaming the sale.
Look forward to seeing you all soon!
