COMMUNITY OF PILE AND MONTECRISTI
Expert skill, indigenous materials and a millenary
tradition give life to the craft that our expedition is
Incorrectly known as Panama Hats, the Toquilla Straw
Hat was designated in 2012 as UNESCO Intangible
Cultural Heritage of the World.
The small town of Pile is known for the community
of artisan weavers responsible for making the finest
and most expensive Toquilla straw hats in the world.
You will be able to visit the weavers’ homes and see
firsthand how the hats are made.
Combining local organic produce, with authentic
cuisine and creativity, our executive chef Cecilia
Cedeño will pamper us with an on-site demonstration
of the rich culinary culture from Manabí in a
delightful farm-to-table experience.
