To our Parents and Community Stakeholders,
It’s an exciting time to have a child in the Bibb County School
District! We have one of the most innovative school districts in the
state, from our award-winning incorporation of PBIS (Positive
Behavioral Interventions and Supports) and The Leader in Me
framework, to our goal of outfitting every classroom in the district
with the latest in 21st century technology, including interactive devices
and audio and visual supports.
Much of this innovation in our schools could not have happened
without the generous support of our community and business partners.
Your support in renewing our Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST) in 2015
has allowed us to ensure every child has access to the same high-quality technology at each school
throughout the district. Also, it has allowed us to update many classrooms and buildings to ensure the
safety and security of our students and staff. Video cameras and audio technology installed in every
classroom throughout the district will support our goal of creating a positive learning environment for
our children, while providing teachers and administrators with professional development opportunities
to support improvements in academic rigor and classroom management.
These ESPLOST funds have been instrumental in allowing us to move forward with our plans to build a
new Northeast High School / Appling Middle School Complex in East Macon. Northeast High School
should be ready by August 2019 and we cannot wait for the community to see the new state-of-the-art
facility! We will break ground around that time for the new Appling Middle School.
It is my belief that every student deserves to benefit from the numerous and diverse educational
opportunities offered by the Bibb County School District, no matter their location or situation. Beyond
the rigorous academic opportunities provided in our schools, options to participate in internships and
apprenticeships supported by our business partners are providing students with the successful skills they
will need to enter the work force. We are also placing more emphasis on dual enrollment, which allows
students to graduate high school ahead of their peers and save on college tuition.
Indeed, it is an exciting time in the Bibb County School District! I look forward to partnering with
each of you in our effort to develop our students into successful members of our community –
students who understand the value of leadership, scholarship and citizenship.
Victory in Progress Continues,
Curtis L. Jones, Jr. Ed.D.
