Epsilon Tau Zeta Chapter
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on the campus of Howard University on
January 16, 1920 by a group of five collegiate women. The founders of this great sorority
are Arizona Leedonia Cleaver Stemons, Pearl Anna Neal, Myrtle Lavenia Tyler Faithful,
Viola Margaret Tyler Goings, and Fannie Celeste Pettie Watts. Articles of Incorporation for
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority were filed, March 30, 1923, in Washington, D. C.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated established a program called Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping
Other People to Excel). The goal of Z-HOPE is to provide quality programs with maximum

impact
in our communities. These include Elder Care Initiatives, Adopt-a-School, Wigs for
PRESIDENT
Awareness, and many other community conscience programs. Elder Care Initiatives are
designed to educate our community on estate planning, long-term care and other
financial issues affecting the elderly and those taking care of the elderly. Adopt-a-School is designed to offer
assistance to a neighborhood school by way of providing school supplies, monetary donations and volunteer hours.
Wigs for Awareness consists of donating wigs and scarves for cancer survivors.
Epsilon Tau Zeta Chapter was formed by a group of eight female college graduates with a desire to form a graduate
chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in Macon, Georgia. The effort was led by Mrs. Gwendolyn Earl Moore. Mrs.
Moore also served as the first president of Epsilon Tau Zeta Chapter. Epsilon Tau Zeta was officially granted a
charter on January 12, 1956. The eight charter members of Epsilon Tau Zeta Chapter were as follows:

Gwendolyn Earl Moore
Dorothy P. Johnson and Maggie H. Turner are still alive and very much active with Epsilon Tau Zeta Chapter.
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated was the first Greek-letter organization to establish auxiliaries. One auxiliary,
the Zeta Amicae (friends) are strong willed, talented, intelligent women who do not currently hold a four-year
degree. The Amicae auxiliary of Macon, Georgia was organized on February 5, 1966 at the home of Ms. Jacquelyn
Brooks, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Seventeen of the charter members were as follows:
