ISLAND HOP
The Lowcountry is filled with
magical islands—large and
small. Visit the upscale beach
communities of Hilton Head
Island and Fripp Island.
Discover Gullah history on
St. Helena Island and Daufuskie Island. Explore the
natural treasures and family
vibe at Edisto Island. Wherever you go, South Carolina
makes it easy to get on island
time.
STROLL
For that one-of-a-kind find,
stroll the main streets of Old
Town Bluffton and charming
Beaufort for locally sourced
art galleries, specialty boutiques, eateries and an authentic hometown vibe. For
antiquing, check out Walterboro. When nature calls, head
to the Blue Heron Trail in
Ridgeland or go bird watching
in Savannah National Wildlife
Refuge in Hardeeville.
CRUISE
Surrounded by so much
water, it’s easy to hop on a
boat to go fishing, dolphin
watching or sightseeing with
local experts such as Outside
Hilton Head. For the active
set, try kayaking, stand-up
paddle boarding or shelling
with Edisto Water Sports or
Beaufort’s Higher Ground.
Biking is another popular way
to cruise the Lowcountry.
PUTT
With more than 20 public
courses on Hilton Head Island, including Harbour Town
Golf Links, this resort island
is known far and wide for golf.
There is even legendary minigolf
at Pirate’s Island Adventure
Golf. Find other Lowcountry
courses on Daufuskie Island,
Fripp Island, Edisto Island, Parris Island and Walterboro. If it’s
on the map, there’s probably a
golf course there.
CLIMB
Reach the top of the 167-step
spiral staircase of Hunting Island Lighthouse and enjoy
the air up there. Although
not technically a lighthouse,
the ubiquitous red-and-white
striped beacon at Harbour
Town requires a 10-story climb
that leads to a museum, gift
shop and views across the island.
Bluffton Boiled Peanut
Festival, Bluffton

and maybe even compete in the
boiled-peanut-eating contest.
